For decades we've heard about the Work Triangle when planning a kitchen remodel. While this concept has proven to be the foundation of many successful projects, a new alternative is being introduced as well: Work Zones.

Since functionality is an important aspect of any kitchen remodel, taking the time look at these options (and others that may work in a unique space) is essential:

Why is it called a triangle?

Based on the way most people use their kitchen, this thought process places emphasis on the layout of the cooktop, sink and refrigerator in relation to each other. To maximize efficiency these are positioned in a triangle shape. For a kitchen remodel, take the time to map where these elements are currently located and see if they currently form a triangle.

What's the difference?

Work zones are new take on the traditional kitchen triangle. This focuses on more than just where the appliances and sink are, to consider how different functions should be planned for in the remodel. Some examples of zones include storage, cooking, entertaining and cleaning. If you look at cooking in a space, it is not just where the stove is located in proximity to the sink and refrigerator. You will also need to think about how you will prep near the stove - is there enough counter space and where are pots and pans located?

The shape of your kitchen and square footage will impact the layout as well so take the time to work with professionals experienced in kitchen remodels in a variety of spaces. The team at Hoffman Kitchen & Bath has decades of experience helping homeowners transform their kitchen. Whether you are looking for simple enhancements or a complete rework of the space, our experts can guide you through the process from design through installation.

A kitchen remodel can go way beyond the aesthetics in the space. While the cabinets and countertops you choose are important, taking the time to make sure your kitchen is functional can result in an investment you can appreciate now and for years to come.
